Protests were held in places around Birgunj on Sunday by burning tires and shouting slogans against the vandalism of a mosque in Sakhuwa Maran, Kamala Municipality-6, Dhanusha. There was also a minor clash between protesters and police at Chhapakaiya Idgah Chowk in Birgunj.
Police also fired 5 rounds of tear gas to control the situation. Seven police personnel were slightly injured, said DSP Raju Karki, spokesperson for Parsa Police.
He said that normal force was used to control the situation and the police only extinguished the burning tires at various places. He also said that the situation had returned to normal by 12:30 pm.
