The Foreign Employment Board has decided to postpone the Rs 250 million skilled training scheme on Sunday. The board secretariat had sought proposals from listed training providers to provide training as per the annual approval program.

A meeting held at the Ministry of Labor, Employment and Social Security chaired by Rajendra Singh Bhandari, Minister for Labor, Employment and Social Security, who is also the Chairman of the Board, decided to immediately suspend the training process.

Labor Minister Bhandari said that the suspension was due to serious questions being raised about the relevance and usefulness of the training provided by the Board. ‘Training has been provided by the Board in previous years as well. There is no data on whether the training provided here is skilled and linked to employment. The same type of training is being provided this time as well,’ he told Kantipur, ‘Its target group is not inappropriate. It has not been confirmed that it has developed the skills of people going for employment.’

He said that the training will not continue in the same way as in the past. ‘Training will not be provided in the old way. Where did the people who have received that training find employment? There is no data on that. The investment has been completely wasted. What was the justification for it? So?,’ he said, ‘Everyone is interested in the hard-earned money of the workers. Now the fund’s income has also decreased. The interest received by the bank in the fund has also decreased.’

The board had planned to provide 360 hours of training in 14 areas. He said that an investigation would also be conducted into the training provided in the last fiscal year. ‘The issue of embezzlement by officials in the board during the training has also been raised.’ He said that an investigation will be conducted into this too,’ he said, ‘The authority has also raised some questions. Suggestions have been received from the ministry’s investigation committee. We will look into this too.’
