Efforts are underway to remove the Buddha Air plane that crashed while landing at Bhadrapur Airport on Friday night.
A team of 25 people, including technicians, led by Acting Director General of the Civil Aviation Authority of Nepal (CAN) Devchandra Lal Karna, has been deployed for rescue and management work with necessary equipment. Technicians from Buddha Air are also participating in the team. They are working amidst tight security.
According to Kishor Khatri, Chief of the Civil Aviation Office Chandragadhi Airport, the work of cleaning and arranging the accident area has been completed. ‘Preparations are now being made to remove the crashed aircraft with the help of a crane,’ he said.
Khatri informed that the aircraft will be moved from the runway using a crane today if possible.
The aircraft that crashed on Friday night was carrying 53 passengers including the crew. Although there were no casualties in the accident, the aircraft was damaged. ‘It may take a few days to get a detailed description of the damage to the plane,’ Khatri said, ‘it is difficult to be certain right now.’
Seven people were injured in the accident. Police have said that all are currently in a stable condition.
Sabin Jogi, 40, of Bhadrapur Municipality-10, Presisha Adhikari, 20, of Birtamod Municipality-7, Sumitra Jogi, 42, of Birtamod Municipality-1, Kamal Prasad Katuwal, 28, of Damak Municipality-1, Muna Ghatani, 40, of Kathmandu Metropolitan City-16, her 16-year-old daughter Priya Ghatani, and the plane’s co-pilot, Sushanta Shrestha, 24, of Lalitpur Metropolitan City-4, were also injured.
The injured have been discharged after treatment at a local hospital.
