The Department of Immigration has implemented the 'Foreign Citizen Management Information System' for the first time to monitor the activities, travel management, and facilitation of foreign nationals in Nepal.
This system has been implemented to monitor, regulate and manage foreign nationals entering Nepal on various visas and to facilitate their travel so that they do not engage in other activities contrary to the immigration law.
According to the department, in the first phase, this system has been implemented in star hotels, travel agencies, money exchanges, etc. in the Kathmandu Valley, informed the department's Director General Ram Chandra Tiwari.
The department is preparing to implement it in hotels, travel agencies, etc. outside the valley in the second phase. Director General Tiwari said that since foreigners entering Nepal on one visa are involved in other activities, overstay, and other criminal offenses, an integrated mechanism is being developed to facilitate those traveling and bring them under the ambit of action.
The department has developed this system with the aim of providing security to foreign nationals visiting Nepal, facilitating information, controlling potential crimes, and assisting in tourism promotion. From this, the organizations affiliated with the system will have to provide the department with information about the stay of foreign citizens who have entered Nepal, where they are, and whether they are in accordance with the visa law.
The details of foreign citizens staying in hotels and leaving the country will have to be informed to the immigration department through the system. 'For whatever purpose foreign citizens come within our borders, their activities need to be in the state's information,' said Director General Tiwari.
It is stated that this will facilitate the security of foreign citizens and tourists, the facilities and ease of rescue provided by the state when necessary, and the ease of immediately identifying activities in Nepal that are against visas or prevailing laws, social values, political or economic interests.
According to him, service providers will have to keep information directly in the department's system Arrangements have been made to connect with their own system and send information. The department will have to provide information to the state about where the tourists are when necessary until this system returns. He said that immigration administration is important for national security and management is necessary accordingly.
He says that all stakeholders are responsible for this and that there should be regulations on incoming passengers.
