Talks have begun to defuse the tension that arose after the death of local Vijay Shah in a gunfight with armed police in Koshi Rural Municipality, Sunsari.

The situation in the area is still tense after a local died in the shooting. 

Talks are underway between the victim's family, local people's representatives and security agencies in the Sunsari district administration to resolve the problem.  DIG Kumar Neupane of the Armed Police Force Barah Bahini Pakali has personally participated in the talks. 

Sunsari Chief District Officer Basudev Ghimire informed that talks are underway to resolve the problem. 

Shah, 45, was killed on the spot when the Armed Police Force deployed to control smuggling opened fire around 1 am on Wednesday. Kumar Neupane, DIG of the Armed Police Force Barah Bahini Pakali, said that there was a double confrontation with the police while they were smuggling goods from the border area in two/three CT Safaris and auto rickshaws.

DIG  According to DIG Neupane, Shah died in retaliatory action after those involved in smuggling attacked the Armed Police Force team. 

Laukahi Bazaar has become tense after angry locals protested against the Armed Police Force's 'murder' of Shah. They have blocked traffic by placing the body of the deceased Shah in Laukahi Bazaar on the East-West Highway and set fire to the Armed Police Force's barracks. Locals have also pelted stones at the police, and the police have fired in the air to disperse the crowd.
