Prime Minister Sushila Karki has said that everyone should express a commitment to guarantee that private sector structures will not burn down again if they are reconstructed.
Speaking at the all-party national dialogue on ‘Cooperation for Peace, Stability and Prosperity’ organized by the Federation of Nepalese Chambers of Commerce and Industry in Kathmandu on Wednesday, Prime Minister Karki said that the government is committed to creating an environment where the private sector can expand investment with confidence.
She said that this government, built on the foundation of the Gen-G movement, is working on a roadmap for political stability by laying the foundation of good governance as per the mandate received from the President. ‘At this time, it is important for all parties to understand that if the livelihood of the citizens cannot be improved and if we cannot fully realize that we have treated them fairly, the dissatisfaction will not go away,’ she said. ‘Citizen dissatisfaction and the feeling of injustice are the main factors of conflict, chaos and unrest.’
She said that the government will respect the rights of entrepreneurs who are the country’s employers, service providers, infrastructure builders, contributors to revenue collection and wealth creation, so that they can freely engage in business and increase investment.
‘Let us provide protection as a zone where attacks such as bandhs, strikes, vandalism, and arson are prohibited, with the assurance of providing prompt service and security to entrepreneurs,’ she said. ‘I would like to assure you that necessary steps should be taken to ensure the security of industries, factories, establishments, private residences, etc., after discussing with the members of my Council of Ministers.’ She also said that the government is ready to remove obstacles to investment by formulating an additional action plan, mainly in collaboration with the relevant ministries and the federation.
She claimed that the relevant bodies are active in bringing to justice the individuals and groups involved in criminal activities such as infiltration, looting, and arson that took unfair advantage of the protests on Bhadra 23 and 24.
Prime Minister Karki also urged entrepreneurs to do clean and decent business. She also urged the private sector to fully comply with the Code of Conduct issued by the Federation of Nepalese Chambers of Commerce and Industry, as well as the Code of Good Business Practices and Professional Responsibility developed by other organizations over time.
She said that the government is committed to developing entrepreneurship through elections, along with ensuring stability and uninterrupted access to business. She appreciated the positive support of civil society, the youth generation, the general public and political parties in this regard. She said that everyone is aware that this government was formed to lay the foundation of good governance and hold elections on Falgun 21.
