Air traffic at 33 airports in Nepal, including Kathmandu, increased significantly from January to November 2025.

According to the data of the Civil Aviation Authority of Nepal, more than 251,000 flights have been operated across the country in the past 11 months, and more than 12.2 million passengers have used air services.

During this period, air cargo transportation has also increased significantly to about 39.2 million kg. According to Devchandralal Karna, Acting Director General of the Civil Aviation Authority of Nepal, who has shown the growing role of the aviation sector in trade, import-export and internal supply system along with tourism.

More than 28,000 flights have been operated from the country's main hub, Tribhuvan International Airport, for international flights alone. More than 4 million international passengers have flown through it, and cargo transportation has reached more than 22.5 million kg.

More than 3.7 million passengers have used services from Kathmandu for domestic flights in more than 84,000 flights in 11 months. This data indicates that the Kathmandu Valley is still limited to the center of air traffic in the country.

Significant activity has been seen in domestic flights from Pokhara International Airport. Around 24,000 flights have been operated from Pokhara alone, carrying around 800,000 passengers.

International flights from Gautam Buddha International Airport, Bharhawa, are still limited. The fact that only 221 international flights have been operated in 11 months is an indication that the economic potential has not been fully utilized.

Although passenger traffic at regional airports like Nepalgunj, Biratnagar, Dhangadhi, Bhadrapur (Chandragadhi) appears to be stable, cargo transportation is relatively weak. The data showing zero or low cargo at many airports shows that the air cargo structure is weak in expanding regional trade.

The increase in the number of air passengers is a positive sign of tourism revival. But businessmen analyze that without international flights and cargo expansion, the aviation sector cannot make the expected qualitative contribution to the economy.
