Police have said that the highway will be blocked for another three hours after they were unable to lift a bullet tanker carrying gas that overturned on the road near the second junction of the East-West Highway in Chandrapur Municipality-4. Preparations are currently underway to lift the tanker by pumping gas through a pipe.

Gas is being dumped in full swing now. After the gas is pumped out through a pipe from the tanker, the tanker will be emptied and lifted off the road. The tanker is being emptied after it was loaded with a heavy amount of gas and could not be lifted even by 6 cranes. Right now, security personnel including technicians are busy pumping out the gas and emptying the tanker.

The tanker overturned on the road and caused a gas leak. After that, the security personnel sealed off an area of two kilometers, saying that it would catch fire. No vehicles are allowed to enter the incident site. Mobile phones have also been banned here. Other vehicles have been stopped as the leaked gas could cause a fire, informed DSP Rupa Labung of the Area Police Office, Chandranigahpur.

The district administration had requested the Electricity Authority to cut the line after the risk of fire due to the power lines increased while pumping out the gas from the tanker. But after receiving the reply that the power could not be cut due to the high-tension line, technicians and security personnel are now venting gas from the tanker to the southern area through a pipe. The security personnel informed that it will take another 3 hours for the gas to be emptied from the tanker.

An LP gas loaded bullet truck with registration number UP 17 AP 2114, coming east from India via the Birgunj border, lost control at 7:30 am on Tuesday and overturned in the middle of the road. After that, vehicle movement has been stopped. The tanker driver, Pawan Yadav, 37, of Jayanagar police station in Kador, India, was injured in the accident. He suffered injuries to his left shoulder and hand, according to the police. Driver Yadav is undergoing treatment at the Civil Hospital in Chandrapur.
