Inspector General of Police Dan Bahadur Karki has said that the role of the media sector is important for ensuring that citizens can live in a fear-free environment in society.

At the conclusion of the News Festival organized by the Lumbini Press Club, Inspector General Karki described the relationship between the police and the media as flesh and blood and said that the role played by the media sector is important in bringing hidden crimes to light.

At a program organized at Baby Buddha in Lumbini on Monday to mark the conclusion of the News Festival and the club's foundation day, he said that media workers are helping to bring many hidden crimes to light through investigative journalism. 'Sometimes, media workers reach the crime scene before the police and find the basis and evidence to arrest those involved in the crime, which has also helped in the investigation,' he said. He said that journalists should raise the level of awareness among citizens by providing fact-based, balanced and responsible news to dispel rumors, false and misleading information.

Inspector General Karki also inaugurated the Heritage Walk organized on the occasion of the 11th foundation day of Lumbini Press Club. The team completed the Heritage Walk from Parsa Chowk to Baby Buddha.

In the program, Federation of Nepali Journalists President Nirmala Sharma, Press Council President Dr. Kumar Acharya, Acting Chief of Lumbini Cultural Municipality Kalpana Harijan, Member-Secretary of Lumbini Development Fund Deepak Shrestha and others spoke about the role of the media sector. Journalists, tourism entrepreneurs, entrepreneurs, monks and Lama Gurus from Nepal and India participated in the three-day news festival.
