The Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA) had filed a corruption case against Nepali Congress leader Basnet on 16 June 2002 on charges of embezzling Rs 3.21 billion 8.3 billion in the procurement of Nepal Telecommunication Authority's Traffic Monitoring and Fraud Control System (TERAMOX) equipment and systems while he was the Minister of Communications.
