Domestic flights have been severely affected by thick fog, mist and cold wave conditions in most parts of the Terai. A total of 328 flights have been cancelled in both directions during the week from Poush 20 to 21, while 86 flights have been merged, according to the Domestic Terminal Office at Tribhuvan International Airport.

There are seven airlines operating domestic flights in Nepal. Among them, Buddha Air, Yeti Airlines, Shree Airlines, Sita Air, Tara Air, Summit Air and Nepal Airlines have been operating regular flights. Flights of all these companies have been affected as the weather has turned adverse.

The Department of Hydrology and Meteorology has been issuing regular three-day weather bulletins after fog, mist and cold waves were observed in most places in the Terai. According to the department, the fog in most places has been gradually improving by noon. However, it has directly affected not only air transport but also various sectors including daily life, agriculture, health, road transport in the Terai. The department has urged the general public to adopt necessary precautions.

According to the department, the minimum visibility in most places in the Terai has been measured at 1,000 meters and the maximum at 4,000 meters. Both fog and mist have been observed in the Terai region during this period.

According to the domestic terminal office of Tribhuvan International Airport, there are about 140 one-way flights daily. However, due to the bad weather, flights to destinations including Nepalgunj, Janakpur, Biratnagar, Bhadrapur, Bhairahawa, Bharatpur, Dhangadhi, Bhojpur, Thamkharka, including mountain flights, have been more affected.

The airport administration has asked passengers to check with the relevant airline before flying as flight schedules may be further affected until the weather improves. International flights have not been affected by the thick fog and mist.
