Newly appointed Foreign Minister Balananda Sharma has taken the oath of office and secrecy. He took the oath before President Ram Chandra Poudel at the Presidential Office, Sheetal Niwas today.

Prime Minister Sushila Karki appointed him as the Minister of Foreign Affairs today. The Council of Ministers now has 15 members.

The oath-taking ceremony was attended by Vice President Ram Sahay Prasad Yadav, Prime Minister Karki, Speaker of the House of Representatives Devraj Ghimire, Chief Justice Prakash Man Singh Raut, high-ranking government employees, heads of diplomatic missions, security personnel, heads of constitutional bodies and high-ranking employees.

Sharma is a former general of the Nepali Army. After the then CPN-Maoist entered the peace process, he was also the coordinator of the Army Integration Technical Committee.

Sharma served in the Nepali Army for about 39 years. He held leadership roles at various levels of the army and was also deployed for international peacekeeping for about 4 years. Sharma played an important role in integrating Maoist fighters into the Nepali Army.
