Newly appointed Foreign Minister Balananda Sharma was sworn in and took office on Friday. Sharma was appointed as the Foreign Minister by President Ram Chandra Poudel on the recommendation of Prime Minister Sushila Karki and administered the oath of office and secrecy.
Sharma took the oath at a special ceremony held at the President's Office on Friday.
The oath-taking ceremony was attended by Vice President Ram Sahay Prasad Yadav, Prime Minister Karki, Speaker of the House of Representatives Devraj Ghimire, Chief Justice Prakash Man Singh Raut, and high-ranking government employees, heads of diplomatic missions, and heads of constitutional bodies. Minister Sharma assumed office at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs at Singha Durbar immediately after the oath-taking.
Former Nepali Army Colonel Sharma served as the Secretariat Coordinator of the then Army Integration Special Committee. Sharma, who has also held the responsibility of Force Commander of the United Nations Peacekeeping Force, is also the President of the Defense University.
With Sharma's appointment as the Foreign Minister, the Karki-led Council of Ministers has become 15-member.
