Former Nepali Army Lieutenant General Balananda Sharma is set to become the Minister of Foreign Affairs. Prime Minister Sushila Karki is set to make Sharma, who was also the coordinator of the Army Integration Technical Committee after the then CPN-Maoist entered the peace process, the Minister of Foreign Affairs.
According to Baluwatar sources, it has been decided to make Sharma the Foreign Minister. 'It has been decided to appoint Sharma as the Foreign Minister,' the source said.
Prime Minister Karki has recommended Sharma's name to President Ram Chandra Poudel for appointment as the Foreign Minister, the President's Office has informed.
According to the President's Secretariat, Sharma, who has been recommended as the Foreign Minister, has been sworn in for 2 pm on Friday.
Sharma served in the Nepali Army for about 39 years. He held leadership roles at various levels of the army and was also deployed for about 4 years for international peacekeeping. Sharma played an important role in integrating Maoist fighters into the Nepali Army.
