Nobel Prize-winning Japanese physicist Prof. Dr. Takaaki Kajita has addressed the students at the 51st convocation ceremony of Tribhuvan University.

At the event being held at the Dasharath Stadium in Tripureshwor, Kajita inspired the students to embrace purpose, resilience and compassion to achieve success in life. He shared his experiences of struggle in his scientific journey and said that success does not come overnight and it requires patience.

He, who won the Nobel Prize in 2015 for the discovery of neutrinos, recalled his 10-year post-doctoral research. ‘After completing my PhD in 1986, I started studying neutrinos, which many doubted me. They advised me to take another easy path,’ he said, ‘But I did not give up.’ As a result, 10 years later, in 1998, we discovered the fact that neutrinos have mass, which changed the understanding of physics.’

Kajita wished the students, saying, ‘Move forward with confidence.’ It's not that the path will be easy, but rather that you will have the strength to walk that path.'

89,191 students from undergraduate to PhD are being initiated at the ceremony. 16,380 students had applied to participate in the ceremony directly.
