A heart sometimes connects two countries. Neither a map nor diplomacy is needed. Humanity is enough. An orphaned Nepali girl has become an example of this humanity. An Indian heart is currently beating inside her chest.

A government hospital in Kerala's Ernakulam district successfully performed the first heart transplant. This event was not only a medical success for India, but also a rare document of the emotional ties between Nepal and India.

Durga Kami, a 21-year-old girl from Surkhet, got a new life through a heart transplant in Indian media. She had reached Kerala for treatment in the last week of Ashad.

A. Shiva, 47, is a native of the southern Indian state of Kerala. He was seriously injured in a road accident on Mangsir 30. After a few days of treatment, the doctors declared him 'brain dead'. That moment was a moment of grief, but also a moment of deep decision for the family. Amidst this tragedy, Shiva's family chose life, but someone else's. They decided to donate Shiva's heart.

At the same time, in another corner of Kerala, 21-year-old Durga was struggling between life and death. The girl, who grew up in an orphanage, was suffering from a rare and serious heart disease called 'Cardiac Sarcoidosis'.

When she was young, her mother and sister also died of the same disease. Her father had also passed away earlier. A heart transplant was her last hope. She first reached Lucknow for treatment. Then Kathmandu. But in the meantime, a Malayalam friend advised her, 'Come here or the treatment will also be good.' Then she reached Kochi, Keralakaumudi Online writes.

The Kerala State Health Department gave her priority in the 'Heart Donor List'. The court order, the proactivity of the Health Ministry and the dedication of the doctors made the decision possible within a few hours, to transplant Shivu's heart to Durga.

Shivu's heart was safely transported by helicopter from Kochi to Ernakulam District Hospital, where Durga was in cardiac arrest. The experienced medical team successfully transplanted it and gave Durga a new life.

Durga's brother Tilak expressed his gratitude to the government hospital, doctors and the Kerala government through Indian media. He said with tears of joy, 'I express my heartfelt gratitude to the heart donor family and the Kerala government.'

Kerala's Health Minister Veena George also praised the doctors on social media. But the greatest praise was not in words, but in the beating heart of the Nepali girl. Health Minister George has even claimed that for the first time in India, a heart transplant was performed at the district hospital level.
