Tribhuvan International Airport Immigration has taken into custody three people who were deported from Saudi Arabia.
The Immigration Administration of Tribhuvan Airport on Tuesday took into custody three people who were sent by the Nepali Embassy in Saudi Arabia with travel documents.
They were taken into custody after there was no evidence to prove that the three people who were returned were Nepali citizens, and an investigation has been launched into the matter, said Ram Chandra Tiwari, Director General of the Immigration Department.
'Three people who arrived in Nepal on Qatar Airways on Tuesday have been taken into custody and an investigation has been launched,' Director General Tiwari said, 'There are doubts about when they went in the past, where they are from and where their permanent address in Nepal is. Only after this is finalized, a decision will be taken on whether to allow them to enter Nepal or return them to the country they came from.' He said that an investigation is also being conducted through the police in this matter.
The three people deported by Saudi Arabia on Tuesday – Kalmaya Tamang, Indramaya Limbu and Sanumaya Tamang – had come to Nepal through the Nepali Embassy with travel documents. But they were taken into custody by the airport immigration after it was found that they could not even speak Nepali. They were taken into custody as they did not have any documents to prove their nationality.
The investigation officers suspect that all three had previously reached Saudi Arabia through a gang using fake documents to pretend to be Nepali citizens.
