Kathmandu Metropolitan City issued a notice on Tuesday asking 107 schools that are not operating to contact it.

The Metropolitan Education Department has issued a notice stating that the process of closing schools will be initiated if they are not contacted. The Metropolitan has also made public a list of schools that were previously permitted to operate but are currently not operating.

‘As per the decision of the Kathmandu Metropolitan City Education Committee dated Bhadra 28, 2082, it has been decided that the Department of Education will monitor, verify, and approve the schools that were previously permitted to operate but are currently not operating on site and submit the necessary decision regarding the cancellation of the permission to the executive for monitoring, verification, and approval,’ the notice states. ‘During the on-site monitoring conducted by the Department of Education of the Metropolitan City at various times, a report has been received that the schools mentioned in the list attached to the notice published on the website of the Kathmandu Metropolitan City are not operating on site and are not visible.’

If the schools as per the list published on the website are operating on site, the principal/director/manager and trustee of the concerned school have been asked to appear at the Department of Education of the Metropolitan City with evidence within 15 (fifteen) days from the date of publication of this notice.

Otherwise, it is stated that a recommendation will be made to the executive for the closure of the school in accordance with Section 13 (k) of the Kathmandu Metropolitan City Education Act, 2075. There is a provision that allows schools that are registered but not in operation to be cancelled.
