Advocate Apsara Basnet, appointed as the Chief Advocate of Bagmati Province, took the oath of office and secrecy on Wednesday. Patan High Court Chief Justice Lal Bahadur Kunwar administered the oath to Basnet in the presence of Province Chief Deepak Prasad Devkota.
In accordance with Section 14 of the Act on the Functions, Duties, Powers and Conditions of Service of the Chief Advocate, 2075 BS, Chief Justice Kunwar of the Patan High Court administered the oath amidst a ceremony. Bagmati Province Chief Minister Indra Bahadur Baniya was also present at the oath-taking ceremony.
Province Chief Devkota had appointed Advocate Basnet as the Chief Advocate of Bagmati Province on Sunday. Basnet has become the first female Chief Advocate not only of Bagmati Province but also in the history of the province.
Chief Minister Baniya had recommended Basnet's name to the Province Chief for the post of Chief Advocate. Earlier, Dolakha's Advocate Sukdev Kafle was in charge of the Chief Advocate. After Kafle resigned, Chief Minister Baniya recommended Basnet's name.
Advocate Basnet is also the outgoing president of the Makawanpur District Bar Association. She also became the first female president of the said Bar Association.
