The Ambassador of the People's Republic of China to Nepal, Song, paid a farewell call on Speaker Devraj Ghimire on Sunday.
The meeting held at the Speaker's office in Singha Durbar discussed strengthening bilateral relations, expanding economic and development cooperation, and other issues.
Speaker Ghimire congratulated Ambassador Chen Song on his successful completion of his term and highly praised his contribution to strengthening Nepal-China bilateral relations, expanding economic and development cooperation, and strengthening relations between the parliaments of the two countries.
The Speaker expressed confidence that Ambassador Song's stay in Nepal was pleasant and unforgettable. Referring to the 70th anniversary of the establishment of Nepal-China diplomatic relations being celebrated throughout the year, Speaker Ghimire said that various programs organized by both sides in 2025 have taken bilateral relations to further heights. He clarified that Nepal and China have been good neighbors, close friends, and reliable partners, and that relations are moving forward on the basis of the five principles of peaceful coexistence, mutual respect, cooperation, and understanding.
Speaker Ghimire reiterated that Nepal is fully committed to the One-China principle and expressed his commitment not to allow any activity against China's interests on Nepali soil. During the meeting, the Speaker praised the support provided by the Chinese leadership to transform Nepal from a landlocked country to a land-linked country. He also mentioned that the regular visits and dialogue between the Nepal-China parliament delegations have further broadened and strengthened bilateral relations.
Speaker Ghimire said that Nepal is grateful for the generous development assistance received from the Chinese government and stressed the need to implement the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) agreement and other development assistance projects as soon as possible.
Ambassador Chen Song said that China has given Nepal high priority in diplomatic relations. He mentioned that significant success has been achieved in implementing the agreements reached during the visit of Chinese President Xi Jinping in 2020 during his tenure.
Ambassador Song said that although people-to-people relations between Nepal and China are high, economic relations have not developed. He recalled that a workshop on Nepal-China economic cooperation and investment was held a few days ago and said that many Chinese businessmen are interested in investing in Nepal. Ambassador Song said that the warm and positive support of Nepal's top leaders, including the Speaker, during his tenure in China will always be memorable.
