Weapons and ammunition stolen from the Area Police Office, Damak, during the Genji movement and demonstrations on Bhadra 23 and 24 have been found in a forest clearing along the Ratuwa River. The police found the weapons lying abandoned on Friday.
Locals had informed the Area Police Office, Damak, after seeing some weapons and ammunition on the river bank. A police team deployed after the information reached the spot and recovered the weapons. According to the police, all the recovered weapons were in a rusty condition.
The recovered weapons and ammunition include two INSAS rifles with magazines, one INSAS rifle without magazines, 134 rounds of 303 rifles, 5 rounds of SLR, 20 rounds of INSAS and three bullet holders.
All the recovered weapons and ammunition have been duly taken into custody and kept at the Area Police Office, Damak, and further investigation is underway in this matter, the police said.
