What you should know
Minister for Labor, Employment and Social Security Rajendra Singh Bhandari has said that Nepali workers should not be sent abroad for wages lower than the international labor rate.
He said this at the 25th International Migration Management and Reintegration Program. He said that only skilled and skilled people should be sent to the international market for employment by guaranteeing the price and security of labor. He said, 'The growing attraction towards foreign employment cannot be completely stopped and should not be stopped. The issue of moving to another country is a matter of personal freedom of the individual. But in this case, we should never send our citizens to work at low prices and wages, at a rate lower than the international labor price.'
Minister Bhandari said that there is a situation where we have to go abroad for capital and to sell labor, and 839,000 people from the country alone go abroad in search of work annually. He said that the number of people going abroad for the first time is equal to 500,000 and it is increasing further. He said that the share of remittances in the gross domestic product is 28 percent and 90 percent of it is spent on consumption.
Minister Bhandari said that if we can send skilled, capable and skilled people abroad as per the demand of the world market, Nepalis will not be subjected to labor exploitation. He said, 'Some manpower companies and middlemen have been harassing Nepalis who are forced to go abroad to work. The ministry is preparing a special mechanism to take action against those who cheat or harass those who go abroad for employment.'
