Bhoj Bikram Thapa, the chairman of the Gen-G Martyrs' Welfare Society Committee, has resigned after being implicated in a corruption case.
Thapa resigned in the committee meeting held on Tuesday. Thapa, who signed the 10-point agreement with the government on behalf of Gen-G on November 24, had become controversial after being implicated in the Melamchi Water Supply Project corruption case. Sujan Neupane, a member of the committee and brother of martyr Yogendra Neupane, said that Thapa resigned from the post of chairman on Tuesday on moral grounds. "He resigned on moral grounds in the meeting held on Tuesday after being implicated in the corruption case," Neupane said. The CIAA had filed a corruption case against 15 individuals and 3 companies, including Thapa, who was relieved of his duties as deputy secretary of the Ministry of Water Supply and Urban Development, in a special court on February 10, 2080.
In a corruption case worth 7.5 billion rupees, a fine of 323,561,663.95 rupees was imposed against Thapa and a fine and imprisonment were demanded. After Thapa resigned, Narayan Shrestha became the new chairman, said committee member Neupane. 'After Thapa resigned, we have made Narayan Shrestha, father of martyr Dhiraj Shrestha, the chairman today.'
