Two people, including the husband of Deputy Mayor Rita Kumari Chaudhary, have been arrested for indecently treating and assaulting two employees of Jyoti Bikas Bank in Odaha, Saptakoshi Municipality-7, Saptari.

On Tuesday, 52-year-old Sanjiv Kumar Chaudhary, a shareholder of Saptakoshi Integrated Agro Farm Pvt. Ltd., and 47-year-old Umakanta Chaudhary of Krishnasawaran Rural Municipality-1 in Agnisair, were arrested. Sanjiv is the husband of Deputy Mayor Rita Kumari.

According to the complaint filed by the bank, the two have been remanded in custody for five days by the Saptari District Court for the crimes of indecent treatment, physical restraint and murder, said DSP Madhav Prasad Kafle of the Area Police Office, Kanchanpur. According to him, the accused in the incident, including Deputy Mayor Chaudhary, his son Siraj, shareholders Prabhunarayan Chaudhary and Panchadev, and Rabindra Swarnakar, are absconding. ‘A search is also underway for the absconding accused,’ he said.

Last Wednesday, the deputy manager (debt recovery chief) of the bank's provincial office and the debt recovery officer of the Rupani branch, Sumit Shrestha, had reached the bank to talk to the borrower (shareholder of the private limited company). A video of Deputy Mayor Chaudhary and others beating them with a garland of shoes after applying sudanese oil was made public on social media on Sunday.
