The incident of indecent behavior and beating of two employees of Jyoti Bikas Bank who had reached Saptakoshi Integrated Agro Farm Pvt. Ltd. in Odraha, Saptakoshi Municipality-7, Saptari to communicate with a debtor attracted the attention of many after it was made public on social media.

Last Wednesday, Sumit Shrestha, deputy manager of the bank's provincial office, and Sabin Shrestha, an employee of the Rupani branch, reached Odraha. A video of the two being beaten up and abused by shareholders of the company and others is going viral on social media. The video shows them being beaten up with sticks while wearing a garland of shoes.

Bank's information officer Prakash Baral said that the employees who had come to discuss how to regularize the installments were beaten up in a planned manner. 'The shareholders of the company and their relatives have worked to weaken the morale of the employees by beating them up and abusing them,' he said. 'We are in legal proceedings against that.'

Pvt. Ltd. had taken a loan of Rs 45 million from the bank on Baisakh 23, 2078. When taking out the loan, the 3 bighas and 14 katthas of land in the same place in the name of the Pvt. Ltd. and the 16 katthas and 8 dhurs of land in Kanchanrup Municipality-12 were pledged as collateral. However, when the Pvt. Ltd. did not pay the installment after 28 Chaitra, 2081, the bank issued a notice to auction the land last Friday.

The shareholders of the Pvt. Ltd. became angry when the bank advertised on TikTok to sell the land before the notice expired. At that time, they abused and beat up the bank employees who arrived last Wednesday.

‘We could have paid off the loan by the last minute, but the incident happened because the shareholders and the locals affiliated with the organization got angry when they started advertising for the sale of the land before the notice period expired,’ said Prabhu Narayan Chaudhary, a shareholder of the company. ‘I was in Rajbiraj, by the time I reached there, the incident had already happened. It is wrong to beat up an employee.’

After the incident, the bank has filed a case of kidnapping, hostage-taking, beating and robbery against 7 people at the Area Police Office, Kanchanpur. The case has been filed against shareholders Prabhu Narayan Chaudhary, Sanjeev Kumar Chaudhary, his wife Rita Kumari, sons Siraj and Panchadev, and debtors and shareholders of the company Umakanta Chaudhary and Rabindra Swarnakar.

‘We have already written for a wound examination,’ said DSP Madhav Prasad Kafle, ‘The wound examination report has not been received.’ DSP Kafle said that further investigation into the incident is underway.
