Lack of tourist bus parks in the capital

What you should know

The lack of a separate bus park for tourist buses in the federal capital, Kathmandu, has caused problems for such vehicles.

Due to the lack of a well-organized park for tourist buses, they have to park on the roadside in Sohrakhutte, Kathmandu Metropolitan City-16.

Although Kathmandu's Kantipath Road has been operating as a tourist bus park for three decades, it was shifted to Sohrakhutte Road from Ashad 16, 2075. The Metropolitan City, Traffic Police, and others had removed the tourist bus park from the Kantipath area and shifted it to Sohrakhutte Road due to heavy congestion.

Currently, about 100 tourist buses are operating from Kathmandu to Pokhara, Chitwan's Sauraha, Lumbini, and Janakpur, among other major tourist destinations, to take domestic and foreign tourists. These vehicles have been transporting around 3,000 domestic and foreign tourists to their destinations daily. Tourist buses operating from Sohrakhutte leave at 7 am for Pokhara, Sauraha, Lumbini, and Janakpur carrying domestic and foreign tourists. Tourist Bus Association of Nepal (TIBAN) President Bhishma Neupane says the government has neglected tourist buses.

'The government is saying that it will boost the country's economy through tourism, but there is a problem because there is no separate park for parking tourist buses,' he said. He said that the state should give first priority to tourist bus parks. Although many countries in the world have developed separate bus parks for the development of the tourism sector, Nepal has not developed it, he said.

President Neupane demanded that the government build a bus park around the Thamel area, which is a major tourist destination in the capital.

Former TIBAN president and owner of Baba Adventure Pvt. Ltd. Prahlad Lohani says that TIBAN has been urging the relevant bodies to build a bus park for tourist buses, but the bus park has not been built yet. He says that the government has not shown the necessary interest in building a tourist bus park.

Businessmen are currently parking tourist buses on Sohrakhutte Road from 5 am to 7 am and carrying passengers, while they are forced to pay fees at various garages during the night.
