Rampur Municipality has launched the Rampur Senior Citizen School from Wednesday. Rampur Municipality-5, Ramghat, Rampur Municipality's Mayor Raman Bahadur Thapa said that the main objective of the Rampur Senior Citizen School, which was launched in Rampur Municipality-5, is to exchange experience and knowledge and to respect senior citizens.

Mayor Thapa said that this school will also play an important role in helping the older generation pass on the skills, customs and culture they have learned, as well as traditional skills, to the current generation. The school has been operated in accordance with the Rampur Municipality’s plan to create an environment for senior citizens to make good use of the skills and arts they know and can do.

The municipality will take responsibility for the sale and distribution of materials produced by senior citizens at the school. Religious sermons will also be given to senior citizens through Acharyas (Pandits). Senior citizens have also been provided with necessary equipment for physical exercise. ‘Arrangements have been made to use the materials they have, do yoga, meditate or listen to sermons,’ he said, ‘A daily schedule will also be made and work will be done on topics where the older generation can pass on the skills they know.’ Rampur Municipality had allocated Rs 3 million this year for the operation of the Senior Citizen School. Ward Chairman Durga Prasad Pokharel said that the school building was constructed at a cost of about Rs 10 million in Ramghat.

Along with the building, structures including the Acharya (Pandit) residence, Senior Citizen Center, accommodation, exercise equipment hall and others have been constructed on the premises, said Rampur Senior Citizen School Management Committee Chairman Buddhi Prakash Regmi. He said that necessary support has been received from various individuals and organizations for the operation of the school.

A traditional Dhiki-Janto has also been constructed inside the school. Social worker Sandeep Rana said that arrangements have been made for the senior citizens along with accommodation, a canteen for lunch and health workers for health check-ups. Rampur Municipality spokesperson Kapil Bahadur Khand said that various religious sermons, bhajan-kirtan, various household items and their use, and evening aarti have been arranged in the school. A management committee has also been formed to run the school systematically.

Chairman Regmi said that attention should be paid to running the school in a senior citizen-friendly manner by understanding the feelings of senior citizens. "We need to pay attention to the behavior within the school," he said. "Senior citizens will be brought to school during the afternoon and arrangements will be made for the new generation to study, along with discussions about old customs and culture."
