The Ambassador of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) to Nepal, Abdullah Saeed Mubarak Jarwan Al Shamsi, has said that the UAE is ready to support Nepal in water conservation.

'The UAE is committed to working hand in hand with Nepal in water conservation, disaster management and support for the journey of prosperity,' he said while addressing a policy meeting on water conservation organized by the UAE Embassy on Tuesday. 'It is necessary to be serious about the growing water crisis worldwide, the preservation of water resources and sustainable management. Collective responsibility is essential for this.'

He recalled that there is a growing water crisis in Nepal and that production decreased due to lack of rainfall in Madhesh in the last Asar-Sarawak.

'In the last Asar-Sarawak, due to lack of rainfall in the Terai-Madhesh, sources from Birtamod to Janakpur had dried up. Even deep wells had dried up,' he said. 'The rice crop itself had dried up. Which added to the risk to food security.'
