Monday's cabinet meeting decided to declare journalist Suresh Rajak, who died in arson during a royalist protest in Tinkune, Kathmandu, a martyr on Chaitra 15 last year.

The Cabinet meeting held at the Prime Minister and Council of Ministers' Office, Singha Durbar on Monday decided to declare journalist Rajak a martyr. After the meeting, Minister for Communications and Information Technology Jagdish Kharel, who is also the government spokesperson, informed the media that the decision to declare journalist Rajak a martyr has been made by the state.
Last year, journalist Suresh died after being burnt in a house that was set on fire during a royalist protest in Tinkune, Kathmandu on Chait 15. Rajak's family had been demanding that the deceased journalist Rajak be declared a martyr.
Earlier, the government had arranged employment for Rajak's wife Sujan Magiya. At the initiative of Minister for Communications and Information Technology Jagdish Kharel, journalist Rajak's wife Magiya has been provided employment as a 'computer operator' at the Security Printing Center under the ministry.
The meeting has also approved the Procedure 2082 for providing relief assistance to the injured and disabled people during the Gen-G movement. Similarly, it has been decided to make necessary arrangements for education, health and employment for the injured of the Gen-G movement.
