The Ministry of Home Affairs has formed a committee under the coordination of Joint Secretary and Head of Policy, Planning, Monitoring and Evaluation Division Suresh Panthi to investigate the incident in which a young woman from Badhaiyatal-4 lost her life due to not being granted citizenship.
After the news was published in Kantipur, Prime Minister Sushila Karki also said that her attention had been drawn to the incident. After that, she directed Home Minister Om Prakash Aryal to understand the truth. The ministry, taking a secretary-level decision on Sunday, decided to form a committee to investigate the incident under the coordination of Joint Secretary Panthi, Deputy Secretary of the ministry Kulshekhar Aryal and one member.
The committee has been ordered to investigate the incident impartially and truthfully and submit a report within 5 days.
Anju Tharu of Dakshin Bhakari village of Badhaiyatal rural municipality-4 in Bardiya chose the path of suicide on 22 Kartik. Her father Kanchha, who was mourning the death of his daughter, also committed suicide four days later.
