An Israeli citizen who came to Kathmandu for a visit has been beaten up. A complaint has been filed with the police at Kaladhara Chowk, Kathmandu-16, alleging that 25-year-old Almog Armoja was beaten up, said Ramesh Thapa, SSP of the District Police Range, Kathmandu.

‘He was staying in a hostel there, and it seems that he was beaten up by an unknown person around 10 pm last Monday,’ Thapa told Kantipur. ‘We are also investigating by looking at the CCTV footage from that time.’

After the Israeli citizen who came to Nepal for trekking was beaten up, the Jerusalem media wrote a news saying that ‘he was beaten up because he is an Israeli citizen.’ He told the Jerusalem Post, ‘I was hearing the attackers speaking to me in Hebrew. If their first blow had knocked me unconscious, the outcome could have been different.’ He even said that if he had not been able to escape, he would have been saved, and he would not have been found.

However, SP Pawan Bhattarai, spokesperson for the Kathmandu Police, says that this matter is not related to the nationality of the Israeli citizen. "It seems like this was done purely for the purpose of robbery," he said, "The person who beat him has also been identified, we are searching for him."

According to him, immediately after the beating, he was first admitted to the People's Hospital in Nayabazar and later to the Swag Hospital in Maitidevi. He has now been discharged, and Bhattarai says he has a minor injury to his forehead.
