Kantipur journalist Dhungana receives human rights award

The National Human Rights Commission is set to honor and award two individuals this year for their significant contributions to the protection and promotion of human rights.

The Commission meeting has decided to award the Late Dayaram Pariyar Memorial Award for 2082 BS to Shankar Limbu of Ilam and the Human Rights Award to Kantipur worker Menuka Dhungana.

The memorial award established in the name of the late Dayaram Pariyar, an employee of the Commission, will be awarded to Shankar Limbu this time. Limbu has been active in the rights of indigenous peoples for a long time. The Commission has selected him for the award based on his contribution.

The Human Rights Award will be awarded to Kantipur worker Menuka Dhungana. From the remote area of ​​Achham, he has been continuously raising issues related to women's rights, communities deprived of access to justice, and human rights.

The proposal of the recommendation committee formed under the coordination of Commission member Manoj Duwadi was approved by the Commission's meeting held on Mangsir 16. The amount of both the award and the award has been fixed at Rs 50,000. The Commission has stated that a certificate and a letter of honor will also be awarded.

The commission has said that they will be honored during a program to be organized on Mangsir 24, International Human Rights Day.
