Minister for Energy, Water Resources and Irrigation, Physical Infrastructure and Transport and Urban Development Kulman Ghising has conducted an on-site inspection of various wards of Roshi Rural Municipality and Namobuddha Municipality in Kavre, which were affected by floods and landslides.

Last year, the floods and landslides that occurred during the incessant rains of Asoj damaged roads and bridges, drinking water, health posts, etc. in the area. However, after complaints were received that the reconstruction could not be carried out, Minister Ghising along with a team including the Director General of the Roads Department, the Director General of the Local Infrastructure Development Department, and the Chief of the Irrigation Division arrived for an inspection on Friday.

Minister Ghising said that the work would be carried out by prioritizing the reconstruction of the structures damaged by the Roshi River. Stating that the current government's priority is to hold elections, he said that work is being done by allocating a budget to ensure effective service delivery, rehabilitation and reconstruction of the disaster-affected areas as soon as possible.

The floods and landslides that occurred during the incessant rains on the 10th, 11th, and 12th of last year damaged the road on the right and left sides of the Falamesanghu concrete bridge connecting Roshi Rural Municipality-1, 2, and 3, Namobuddha Rural Municipality-8, and 9, and Mahabharat and Khanikhola Rural Municipality. If the river banks in that area are not protected, there is a possibility that the bridge itself could be washed away.

The Ministry of Physical Infrastructure and Transport has already sent a proposal to the Ministry of Finance for budget approval to proceed with the work under the disaster management plan. The flood washed away the suspension bridge there. Due to the absence of the bridge, movement in the area is disrupted during the rainy season. The flood completely washed away the 10-bed basic hospital.

Namobuddha Municipality Mayor Kunsang Lama said that the federal and provincial governments would not allow a budget shortage for the reconstruction of disaster-affected structures, but the work has not been carried out accordingly.
