Home Minister Om Prakash Aryal has said that looting, vandalizing, and setting fire to public and private property while waving the national flag of Nepal cannot be considered a movement.

In a meeting of the Public Policy and Delegated Legislation Committee under the National Assembly on Thursday, Home Minister Aryal said that the misuse of the national flag has increased and that it should be controlled. The Home Minister responded after lawmakers raised the issue of misuse of the national flag and looting and arson of national property by waving the flag.

'The misuse of the national flag has become a matter of concern. Things like arson, looting of national heritage sites, burning of personal property and looting do not fall within the scope of the movement,' Aryal said, 'It should be discouraged. We should spread awareness and prevent this, and if there is a serious situation, we should also bring it under the ambit of the law and punish it. This has become a matter of concern.'

Similarly, Minister Aryal clarified that the damage done to the country's public property is not forgivable. He also informed that the process of taking action against those who looted, vandalized and set fire to public and private property under the guise of the Gen-G movement on Bhadra 23 and 24 is underway. 'The damage done to the country's heritage is unforgivable, unacceptable. We have made the action taken public. We are firm on the demands of the rule of law,' he said. 'If we deviate from the rule of law, today we are on the grey list for various issues, tomorrow we will be on the grey list and black list for all issues. Impunity cannot be accepted.'

The issue of various Gen-G groups demanding the resignation of the Prime Minister and ministers was also raised in the parliamentary committee. MPs had questioned the Home Minister about the stability of the government. In response, Home Minister Aryal said that Gen-G groups are coming into the mainstream of politics and the government has not lost its way. 'This is a political matter. They are coming into the mainstream of politics. We respect political ideas,' he said. The Home Minister also said that if the government collapses, it will collapse due to its own shortcomings, otherwise it will do its job.

The Home Minister also said that the government has been working to control political conflict since its formation. He also said that it has worked to prevent political conflict from escalating and that the government has been successful in this to a large extent. Stating that the government is holding discussions with political parties to hold elections, he said that the relationship between the parliament and the government should be strengthened.

Home Minister Aryal also said that the government is determined to move forward by taking political parties and the Gen-G generation into confidence. He said, 'We take the parties into confidence. We work in favor of good governance and the rule of law raised by the Gen-G generation.'
