The 12 bodies burned during the protests on 24 Bhadra in Kathmandu's Chuchepati, Sunsari, and Bhatbhateni in Morang have not yet been identified.

According to the police, these bodies were found while cleaning the stores in Bhatbhateni that were burnt during the protest. Since the bodies were completely burnt, their gender could not be identified.

According to Pawan Kumar Bhattarai, Superintendent of Police (SP) of Kathmandu Police Range, the bodies have been brought to Tribhuvan University Teaching Hospital for identification. 'It is not possible to identify the bodies by looking at them. DNA tests were attempted. But DNA samples could not be extracted from the burnt skeleton and ashes,' he said, 'so they have not been identified yet.'

He said that there is a problem as the Nepal Police Central Forensic Science Laboratory has also been unable to collect samples. He said that discussions are also underway after it was reported that the technology for extracting DNA from skeletons can be used in European countries. Apart from the Nepal Police Central Forensic Science Laboratory, there is a National Forensic Science Laboratory under the Ministry of Education, Science and Technology in Lalitpur. But the bodies have not been taken here for examination.

Bhatbhateni has already said that they were not customers or employees working there as the stores in Bhatbhateni were closed that day. ‘A complaint has also been received at Kathmandu Police saying that their people went missing during the protests and agitations.’ The relatives of some of them have also informed that their family members were in Chuchepati and Boudha areas during the agitations,’ SP Bhattarai told Kantipur. ‘Even when the relatives of the deceased gave their names, the bodies were completely burnt, so further investigation could not be carried out.’

A body found in Bhatbhateni in Morang has not been identified, but samples have been collected at Koshi Hospital and cremated. According to Kabid Katuwal, Superintendent of Police at the District Police Office, Morang, a skeleton was found at the scene. ‘We had given the responsibility of managing the bodies to the local level,’ he said, ‘No one has come to say that my people are missing so far.’ We have not been able to find out the name, surname, or country of origin.'

The 4 bodies found in Bhatbhateni, Sunsari have not yet been identified. 'Ash that looks like a corpse has been found,' said Basudev Ghimire, Chief District Officer of the District Administration Office, Sunsari. 'The body was almost ashes. It was disposed of at that time. So far, no one has come forward as our member.'

A body was also found in Koteshwor Bhatbhateni, Kathmandu, during the protests on 23 and 24 Bhadra. 3 people died while burning an auto showroom including the District Administration Office in Pokhara, 1 person died while burning a house in Parsa, and one person died when a gas cylinder in a burning house in Chitwan exploded. All of them have been identified.

The unidentified and abandoned bodies management guideline has made arrangements for the unidentified and unclaimed bodies to be cremated by the concerned police office in accordance with the decision of the committee in the presence of local people's representatives and social organizations of the concerned area and to keep a record of the details
