The United Arab Emirates (UAE) has made it mandatory for Nepali citizens to submit a police report for visit and work visas. According to the UAE Embassy in Kathmandu, Nepali citizens will have to submit a report issued by the Nepal Police to apply for a visa.

The UAE had stopped issuing visit and work visas for Nepalis after the Gen-G protests on Bhadra 23 and 24, citing security reasons. It had not given formal information about this to Nepal.

The UAE embassy has now informed that all types of visas have been opened.  The Nepal Foreign Employment Entrepreneurs Association had been requesting the Nepal government to open visas for Nepalis after obtaining a police report.

Due to the visa closure  About 5,000 Nepali workers who were issued work permits by the UAE government have been stopped. Their work permits are expiring.

The UAE is a major destination for Nepalis. About 40 percent of those who obtain work permits from the Department of Foreign Employment go to the UAE. According to the data for the fiscal year 2081/082, 201,148 people obtained work permits to go to the UAE. This data is excluding re-work permits.

If we look at re-work permits, this number is 274,590 people, according to the data released by the Department of Foreign Employment.
