On Sunday, some youths threw red paint-mixed lola at the vehicle carrying UML leader Mahesh Basnet outside the Biratnagar Airport premises.
The police have taken two youths into custody for attacking the vehicle carrying Basnet. According to police sources, those arrested include Sanjog Gautam and Arpit Kunwar.
Gautam, who threw a red ink-stained lola at Basnet, is the unit president of the Nepal Students' Union of Mahendra Morang Campus in Biratnagar, while Kunwar is a member. Due to factionalism within the Congress, two groups of the Nepal Students' Union are active on the Mahendra Morang Campus. Gautam and Kunwar are known as the Shekhar Koirala group.

Basnet was attacked while he was on his way to participate in a youth awareness campaign organized by the UML's Itahari Sub-metropolitan Committee. According to the police, as Basnet's car was leaving the airport, one of the two youths sitting at the tea shop suddenly got up and attacked him. Another youth was filming the entire incident at the time of the incident.
According to police sources, some youths from the Gen-G group had reached the police office to release Gautam and Kunwar, who were in police custody. Some of them are active in the group of Sudhan Gurung, one of the leaders of the Gen-G movement.
