Minister for Energy, Water Resources and Irrigation, Physical Infrastructure and Transport and Urban Development Kulman Ghising has inspected the bridge that has been under construction for years over the Kamala River along the Hulaki Highway, considered the lifeline of Madhesh.

Ghising, along with Youth and Sports Minister Bablu Gupta, who is also a resident of Siraha, Secretary of the Ministry of Physical Infrastructure and Transport Keshav Kumar Sharma, Director General of the Road Department Vijay Jaishi and others, inspected the Kamala Bridge on Friday.

A contract agreement was signed with Pappu Lumbini JV for the construction of this bridge in Jestha 2068 for Rs 249.1 million. According to the contract agreement, the bridge should have been built by Mangsir 2071. However, the work could not be completed despite repeated extensions due to the contractor's negligence.

This bridge, which was in the final stage of construction after 10 years of protests by locals, was unable to withstand the flood in the Kamala River on Asad 17, 2078. Since then, the contractor has said that it will be reconstructed, but it is unclear when the bridge will be built.

Minister Ghising committed to the government to proceed with the construction of the bridge at a rapid pace by addressing technical issues. He said that the CIAA is investigating irregularities in the construction of the bridge in the past and action will be taken against those involved.
