Nepali Communist Party Coordinator Pushpa Kamal Dahal has urged the government not to allow the ongoing tension in Simara, Bara, to escalate into violence and spiral out of control.
Dahal on Thursday urged all parties to exercise maximum restraint to prevent the situation from becoming more violent and out of control through social media Facebook.
'Serious attention has been drawn to the ongoing tension and violent incidents in Simara, Bara since yesterday,' he said. 'I sincerely request all parties to exercise maximum restraint to prevent the situation from becoming more violent and out of control.'
Dahal, who is also a former Prime Minister, has also drawn the government's attention to respecting political and ideological freedom of speech. 'In a democracy, political and ideological differences are natural, but transforming them into violence or incitement is not a democratic culture,' he said. 'Therefore, I draw the government's attention to creating an environment where political parties and party leaders can move freely and hold meetings and conferences while respecting political and ideological freedom of speech.'
He has also urged all parties to be aware and responsible so that no incident negatively affects the declared elections to be peaceful and fair. He has also instructed local party committees to play the necessary facilitating role to normalize the situation.
