The unity talks between the Nepali Communist Party and the Janata Samajwadi Party have been positive. Leaders have said that they were positive in the second round of talks between the NCP and the JSP on Wednesday.
Both parties have agreed to move forward on the path of ‘socialism with Nepali characteristics’. The meeting on Wednesday decided to prepare a memorandum of understanding, including the management of leaders and the method of unification of organizations.
The JSP, led by former UML leader duo Federal President Rajendra Shrestha and Executive President Ashok Rai, has already decided to unite with the NCP. NCP Secretariat member Barshaman Pun, who participated in the talks, said that the two parties are close to an agreement for unification. ‘We are close to an agreement for unification of the two parties,’ he said, ‘We will reach an agreement soon.’
JSP Federal President Shrestha said that the central working committee meeting decided to unify with the NCP. ‘Unification with the NCP is positive,’ he said, ‘Now, in the next round of talks, efforts will be made to reach a conclusion on the responsibilities of leaders and organizational structure.’
A leader said that JSP Vice President Pradeep Yadav’s side did not fully agree on unification with the NCP. However, Shrestha claimed that there was no difference of opinion on unification with the NCP. ‘The talks with the NCP were held as per the decision of the central committee. There is no difference in this,' he said.
The Nepali Communist Party was formed on Kartik 18 by the Maoist Center, the CPN Unified Socialist Party and other small components. CPN coordinator Pushpa Kamal Dahal has adopted a policy of uniting with other left and socialist parties to fight the upcoming elections. Accordingly, efforts are being made to unite with the JSP as per the strategy of uniting many parties without lengthy debates on political ideology and principles and winning the upcoming elections.
In the third week of Baisakh 2081, the Janata Samajwadi Party led by Upendra Yadav split and another JSP was formed. At that time, the government was formed under the leadership of Maoist Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal. Chairman Yadav had alleged that his party was divided as per the government's plan. After that, Yadav (JSP) left the Samajwadi Front comprising the Maoist, CPN Unified Socialist Party and JSP.
In the talks held at the Maoist central office, Parisdanda, on Wednesday, NCP Secretariat members Dev Gurung, Shakti Basnet, Girirajmani Pokharel, Beduram Bhusal and leaders from JSP including Rajendra Shrestha, Parashuram Basnet and others participated.
