The body of 13-year-old Anshu Gautam of Budhavara, Letang Municipality-2, Morang, has been at the BP Koirala Institute of Health Sciences in Dharan for four weeks.
The victim's family has not accepted the body, saying that the cause of the incident and the identity of those involved have not been identified. The family alleges that the murder took place after the rape. The police have not yet been able to find any clues to the incident. However, the police say that a thorough investigation is underway. Morang District Police Chief SP Kavit Katwal said that the truth will be made public as soon as possible as the investigation is being carried out meticulously.
On the afternoon of 21 Asoj, Kojagrat Purnima, Anshu left her house saying 'I am going to play ping'. She did not return after that. When her daughter did not return home by evening, the family searched the village and the toll road. Asked her friends. They searched the nearby forest. However, she was not found. Finally, a complaint was filed with the police.
On the 18th day after filing a complaint with the police, i.e. on 7 Kartik, a local who had gone to cut grass found an unrecognizable body in the Chisang shared forest area, about 4 kilometers away from his house.
The decomposed body, severed head, and damaged condition made it difficult to identify. The family identified the body on the basis of slippers and clothes. ‘The body found 18 days after it went missing was completely decomposed,’ said SP Katwal, ‘that is why a thorough investigation is being carried out to bring out the truth.’
Anshu’s family has been adamant that the body will not be recovered from the hospital until the accused are arrested after claiming that their daughter was raped and murdered.
After the incident, a special team of the district police, state police, and the Criminal Investigation Bureau (CIB) are working on a detailed investigation. The cause of death has not been revealed in the post-mortem report either. The report states that the death occurred within about two weeks.
The report of the sample collected from the spot and sent for forensic examination has not come. The DNA report is also yet to come. ‘We will reach a conclusion after all the reports come,’ said SP Katwal, ‘Some suspicious people are under investigation.’
Family awaits justice
The Gautam family is waiting for justice after keeping their daughter’s body in the morgue of BP Koirala Institute of Health Sciences. Father Navin Gautam says, ‘We will not pick up the body until the culprit is arrested.’
Anshu’s elder father Damodar laments in a heavy voice, ‘Now our daughter will not come back.’ But, the culprit must be punished. We cannot be satisfied without justice for her.’ Locals say that after Anshu’s death, children in the Letang area have become afraid to step out of their homes.’
