Traffic, which was disrupted since Monday night in Daunne, under the Narayangadh-Butwal road section, which is under expansion, has resumed.
Traffic was affected when a freight vehicle skidded due to water poured in front of the Bishwakarma Temple during road construction. Two trucks also broke down at the same location, so traffic could not be smooth until Tuesday evening.
It is taking more than five hours for passengers to cross the Daunne section. Kushal Bataula, Chief of the District Traffic Police Office, Nawalpur, said that there is a problem in traffic due to the breakdown of vehicles and slippery road. According to him, the traffic jam has eased somewhat since Tuesday evening. One-way traffic is being operated near the Bishwakarma Temple and two-way traffic is being operated in other places.
As road construction work is currently underway in the Daunne section, the Road Department has also issued a notice that traffic will be one-way in the areas where work is being done in Daunne. Although it is normal to get stuck in a jam of 10/15 minutes when the road is one-way, passengers are suffering when they are stuck in a jam for 5/6 hours.
Even before this, the road has been slippery and traffic has been affected near Binayi Triveni Rural Municipality-2 Paisaththi Mod and Bishwakarma Temple due to moderate rains. Passengers and locals are suffering as the road expansion work is not completed on time. The government has extended the deadline for the expansion for the fourth time until 2083 Shrawan 7. Although the work was supposed to start in Chaitra 2075 and be completed in Shrawan 2079, the deadline was extended for the third time because the work was not completed, said Shiva Khanal, Information Officer of the Eastern Section of the project.
Khanal said that although there is some inconvenience due to the ongoing work, travel in Daunne will be easy in a few months. The contract agreement has been signed by dividing this 114-kilometer-long road into two sections. After the work was not completed even during the third extension, preparations are underway to extend the deadline for another year.
Work is underway in two areas, namely Section 'A' for the 65-kilometer road from Gaindakot to Daunne in Nawalpur and Section 'B' for the 49-kilometer road from Daunne to Butwal. The highway is being expanded at a total cost of Rs 16.9952 billion with the loan assistance of the Asian Development Bank (ADB).
