COP 30: Agriculture Minister demands priority for Himalayan issues

Agriculture Minister Madan Prasad Pariyar has highlighted the need to prioritize the Himalayan issue in the United Nations' climate change agenda. Addressing the ministerial segment of the ongoing conference in Belo Horizonte, Brazil, on Monday, he said Nepal is committed to the issue of climate justice.

Minister Pariyar said that global warming has caused problems in Nepal such as melting snow, unseasonal floods and droughts in some places, which have a major impact on the agricultural sector. He said that Nepal's goal is to reduce carbon emissions to zero by 2045. He also said that 46 percent of Nepal is covered by forests. He said that developed countries should invest in the Climate Finance Fund as per their pre-commitment. He also urged them to abide by past agreements and respect the views of the International Climate Justice Advisory Committee. Before his address, Minister Pariyar had interacted with various stakeholders. Maheshwor Dhakal, Joint Secretary of the Climate Change Division, informed that the Nepali team is participating in various side events and interactions and holding discussions at bilateral and multilateral levels.
