Misuse of social media poses security challenge: Inspector General Karki

Inspector General of Police Dan Bahadur Karki has said that the social security challenge has increased as social media is being misused.

At a program organized at the Police Headquarters on Monday to mark the 70th founding day of the Criminal Investigation Department, he said that capacity building training is necessary for investigations related to drug abuse and dealing, cryptocurrency, online gaming, scamming, suicide, human trafficking and smuggling, economic crimes and complex and organized crimes of an international nature, along with the misuse of social media.

Inspector General Karki had directed to work to get immediate results by prioritizing the implementation of judgments, the search for absconding defendants and those arrested, and to conduct effective investigations by prioritizing past criminal activities and long-pending cases.

The newly appointed Inspector General of Police Karki expressed the view that impartial, evidence-based and scientific investigations would help bring those who committed illegal acts to justice, emphasizing that the police mechanism should be more responsible and proactive to provide justice to the victims and enhance the reputation and trust of the police in the society.

At the program, Additional Inspector General of Police Sushil Singh Rathore, Chief of the Criminal Investigation Department, expressed his views on the current status of crime control and investigation, challenges, and solutions.
