Nepal Airlines Corporation will now use Gautam Buddha International Airport (Bhairahawa) as an 'alternative' airport in cases where its aircraft need to be diverted.
According to NAC spokesperson Anil Ghimire, while it has been compulsory to use Indian airports for diversions until now, the decision on Monday has now been implemented to allow the use of Bhairahawa Airport.
Nepal Airlines Corporation has stated that this will save both the cost and time involved in diversions.
Similarly, the NAC has also decided to proceed with the study process to use Pokhara International Airport as an 'alternative' airport.
The expansion of alternative airports is expected to increase the ease and confidence in emergency landings and air safety in the near future.
