The agreement submitted to the government by the Gen-G protesters includes issues ranging from immediate relief to the families of martyrs and the injured, to an impartial investigation into the incidents that occurred from 23 to 25, and to amending the law through an ordinance to implement full proportional representation in the House of Representatives elections.
The ‘Gen-G Movement Alliance,’ ‘Council of Gen-G,’ coordinators of seven provinces, and the ‘Gen-G Front’ have submitted a unified ‘Proposed Agreement between the People’s Movement and the State Party on the Mandate of the People’s Movement Led by Gen-G’ to Prime Minister Sushila Karki.
What are the seven main points of the agreement submitted to the government on Friday?
1. To ensure interim relief and free health care in coordination with the families of the martyrs and injured of the movement.
2. If the police have arrested and prosecuted the people’s movement in any case other than the heinous crimes recommended by the commission, the government should keep those cases on hold and immediately release the detainees arrested in other cases except for murder and rape-related crimes and transfer the authority to investigate the matter to the commission.
3. Develop infrastructure by ensuring the voting rights of expatriate Nepali citizens, expatriate Nepali students and Nepalis working abroad.
4. End corruption, partisanship in public institutions and appointments based on party affiliation and study the reforms to be made in the related laws and the effective implementation of the laws. The government of Nepal shall form a task force including Gen-Z, Z, and youth to take forward the process of necessary amendments. The task force shall recommend to the government as soon as possible.
5. Ensure public access and transparency to institutions, funds, and centers operating across the country using public land, property, and funds, and investigate their property, financial, and other activities. If any irregularities or illegal activities are found, they shall be dissolved and all their assets shall be nationalized.
6. Expressing a commitment to prevent illegal surveillance and misuse of digital data of ordinary citizens by the state or third parties, and to implement legal, physical and technical reforms and infrastructure arrangements.
7. Conduct a nationwide broad citizen discussion on a directly elected executive presidency or a republican system of governance.
