Bihar elections: Anant Singh, who is in jail for murder, wins from Mokama

Anant Singh, the powerful leader of the Janata Dal United (JDU), who is in jail on murder charges, has been elected as a member of the Legislative Assembly of the Indian state of Bihar from Mokama by a margin of over 28,000 votes.

Singh got 91,416 votes while opposition Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) candidate Bina Devi got 63,210 votes.

Anant Singh has won the assembly elections from this constituency five times. He first won the election from this constituency in 2005.

Singh has 28 criminal cases registered against him. He was last arrested on November 2 for his involvement in the murder of Dulari Singh Yadav. Yadav was shot at while campaigning for Priyadarshan Piyush, a candidate of Prashant Kishor's Janasuraj Party.
