Home Minister Om Prakash Aryal has said that the government is working to hold the elections on time. He said that the government is committed to holding the elections on Falgun 21 as per the responsibility given to the government.
Home Minister Aryal made this statement during a discussion on the state of peace and security and preparations for the upcoming elections at the meeting of the Federalism Strengthening and National Concerns Committee on Thursday. 'We are ready and eager to complete the elections on time and hand over to the elected representatives as soon as possible,' Aryal said. 'The Voters' Roll Act, 2073 BS, has been amended to provide the younger generation with the opportunity to vote. According to the Election Commission's data, more than two hundred thousand voters have been added.'
Home Minister Aryal also informed that the resources and means required for the security agencies for the elections are being managed. He informed the committee about the work being done regarding the election preparations. Stating that discussions have been held with political parties to conduct a free and fair election, he said that discussions and consultations have also been held with the heads of diplomatic missions at various levels.
Home Minister Aryal also said that joint security patrols have been started in coordination with all security agencies targeting the elections. 'A task force has been formed under the coordination of the Joint Secretary of the Ministry of Home Affairs, comprising representatives of all security agencies, to prepare an election security plan, and the committee has submitted its report, which will be approved by the Central Security Committee and implemented,' he said. 'The homework of amending the law to provide voting rights to Nepalis living abroad has progressed, and the Policy Research Institute has been entrusted with the responsibility of studying its technical and managerial feasibility and making suggestions.' The Home Minister informed that the institute will submit its report after discussing with stakeholders and based on international practices. Similarly, he also said that the report was submitted after assessing the risk of polling stations through the District Security Committee. He said that the work of reconstruction of the damaged polling stations was done in coordination with the local municipality.'
'We are studying the feasibility of 'out of country voting' and 'out of constituency voting' for Nepalis living abroad,' Aryal said. 'Everyone has high expectations from this government.' Despite the short period, we are trying to achieve the aspirations of the people within the ambit of the law.'
Home Minister Aryal said that the current government has no room for failure. He also said that holding elections is the main responsibility of this government.
