Prime Minister Sushila Karki has sought information about the progress made in the process of returning the misappropriated land of Tribhuvan University.

Prime Minister Karki held discussions with TU Vice-Chancellor Prof. Deepak Aryal, Rector Prof. Khadga KC,  Registrar Prof. Kedar Prasad Rijal and others at Singha Durbar on Tuesday afternoon in the presence of Finance Minister Rameshwor Khanal, Home Minister Om Prakash Aryal, Education Minister Mahabir Pun, and Communications Minister Jagdish Kharel. Chief Secretary Ek Narayan Aryal and officials of the Land Search Committee also participated in the discussions.

Prime Minister Karki had sought information about the progress made in the implementation of the report so far and expressed interest in the upcoming process. She had inquired about how much was returned after the report was made public, how the return process has progressed, and what action has been taken against the guilty.

TU officials had said that they expected the government's support to remove those occupying university land and maintain a record of the land that has been misused.

Home Minister Aryal said that the university itself should take the lead in the process of maintaining records and that if land is illegally seized, each incident should be reported to the CIB and other bodies as separate cases. He said that the CIB is ready to take action as it has expertise and experience in land misappropriation.

Chief Secretary Ek Narayan Aryal said that the university itself can do 60 percent of the work pointed out in the report. He was of the opinion that the government should not be asked for all the work.

Education Minister Pun proposed that the work that can be done on this issue should be done immediately without delay and that a task force should be formed with representatives of all the concerned bodies for this.

Prime Minister Karki directed that the trend of occupying TU land, grabbing it and even selling it should be stopped immediately. He also directed that whoever is guilty in this should be brought to justice immediately.
