Police have arrested an absconding accused in the fake Bhutanese refugee case. The arrested person has been identified as 42-year-old Niranjan Kumar Kharel, alias Nirajan, from Rautahat.

SSP Shiva Kumar Shrestha said that a team of the Central Investigation Bureau (CIB) arrested him based on a special information.

According to SSP Shrestha, Kharel was involved in collecting and transporting the money collected by the gang by defrauding Nepali youths by making them Bhutanese refugees and taking them to the US.

Former Minister Top Bahadur Rayamajhi, former Home Minister Bal Krishna Khand, former Home Secretary Tek Narayan Pandey, former Security Advisor to the Home Minister Indrajit Rai, among others, were also arrested on charges of being involved in the gang that made Nepali youths become Bhutanese refugees and take them to the US.
